Wet Weather

At one stage, not that long ago, 100% of NSW was in drought. That's over 800,000 square kilometres of drought affected land and that doesn't include any of the other Australian states. It had been dry for that long that even though we've now had a couple of days of heavy rain, the grass was that dry that it had cured, so it won't go green, it's just damp and after a day or two of sun it will be just as dry and as dangerous as it was before the rain. I have a feeling that we are in for some pretty bad bushfires this year, there are already a lot burning but I think that there is a lot more to come.
Today was the first day in a long time that I put on my full waterproof pants to ride the motorcycle to work in and although they are meant to be some of the best wet weather pants that you can buy, they still leaked in more that one location and so did my top. I was a bit of a wet mess when I got to work. This afternoon I took off a little early as there was a gap in the weather and they were predicting a storm so I thought I'd get away when I could.
We haven't had decent rain in such a long time and now getting it all at once means that maybe the dams will fill up, but so much of it will just wash away down the storm water drains and not soak into the ground.
What I enjoy doing where there is a big storm is sitting on our back deck and seeing all the rain with the thunder and lightning. I love the smell and the noise of it all. With all our technology we still can't compete with mother nature when she wants to put on a show.
