I need to start making sure that I write enough each day so that I don't suddenly find myself caught out. I again thought that I had a post already scheduled for tonight and was just going to start drafting some more posts when I noticed that nothing went up on time tonight. Good thing I don't have any followers otherwise someone might have noticed!
Yesterday evening I did go and do some exercise in the garage. It included doing squats and today my legs aren't as sore as they were the last time I did squats, so that's a good thing. I did some extra routines with the dumbbells so I only did four sets instead of the five that I thought I was going to do, I was pretty knackered after four so I figured that it was better to stop then before I end up hurting myself.
I'm not sure what they are called, but I did something where you kind of hold a lunge and have the dumbbells at your side and try and raise them up, kind of like you're flapping, that really hurt. The first set I managed to get 10 in, the second set I got to 5 or something, the third set I did another 5 and I didn't even manage a fourth set of them. I'll try them again tomorrow and hopefully I'll get better at them.
So I'm now doing
10x squats
10x biceps curls
10x triceps extensions
10x chest presses
10x box row (one arm)
10x box row (other arm)
10x shoulder press
10x flying lunge (5 reps on each leg)
then repeating that four times.
Once I'm able to easily do four sets then I'll look at increasing the weight.

It finally happened...
I missed a daily post. That's three and a half months straight and then for being tangent man, I missed a day. I had even started writing up a post and for some reason I didn't finish it and then last night I was stuck at work late again but was sure that I'd finished the post and scheduled it to post on time so I didn't bother writing anything on my phone. Some of the below is what I started writing for last night.
I did end up going and doing my little routine using the dumbbells on Tuesday night. It only took me about 10 minutes to get through it all. I'm not doing it for cardio, I'm doing it with the aim of hopefully putting on more muscle. I think that if I put on more muscle then that will help me lose weight as what I eat will go towards maintaining the muscle instead of turning into fat. The worst thing that can happen is that I get stronger and I keep my existing fat, which to be honest will be a little annoying but at least I'll be more fit than I was before.
I do think that 10 minutes is probably a little too quick so I'm going to do a bit more research into other exercises that I can do with the dumbbells and the bench and add a few more things to the routine. Again I chickened out of doing squats as they really burned my legs up for a few days last time and again I was still in my motorcycle pants as I hadn't gotten changed when I came home from work... this is where I went off and actually started researching different exercises and never got back to finishing the post.
What I discovered was that there were a couple of exercises that I could be doing but I realised that I should also be doing those squats that I've been avoiding. Today I'll do them for sure and I'll also try one or two other things to see if they work different muscles or the same. I only did four sets on Tuesday so today I'm going to do five.

My Wife is Dizzy Too
Last night my wife told me that she was feeling a little light headed and that she was feeling a little dizzy. When she rolled over her eyes were moving like the room was spinning. This can't be good.
My vertigo is still hanging in there, some days are worse than others but now that my wife is experiencing it too it seems like it might be viral or something. If my wife mentions it again we'll probably all have to go to the doctors. That could be interesting for them, both of us with the same symptoms.
Today I am meant to do some weights in the garage and I still hope to get out there and do some, but now I'm having a beer so who knows. I just seem to lose my motivation, I should have gone for a walk yesterday and I should have had so much to eat for lunch. That seems to be part of my problem. I've also been getting really hungry in between meals. Today I had some almonds when I got home but I then had two handfuls of party lollies. I did buy some nut bars to snack on but they are quite sweet too and seem to have a large amount of salt in them so I'm not so keen on them (like party lollies are good right).
I just wish that I could keep my head in the right zone and not worry about this sort of thing. Writing this is motivating me a little to go into the garage and do some weights, not sure how that will go on a full tummy of dinner and half a beer but I guess I'll see how I go.
Today I heard that my son and his best friend got in trouble at school for lifting up some skirts. I'm sure that there was nothing in it except trying to annoy the girls but it's the kind of behaviour that you have to come down hard on as it's not right and shouldn't be tolerated and you have to teach kids at an early age about what it appropriate and what isn't. Hopefully my son noe understands that it's not accepted and he won't do it again.

Ooops!
I was sure that I had a post all set up and ready for tonight. Good thing I checked that it posted as I didn't have one. I almost missed a day, but I'm here now so it's all good.
On Saturday I took my son to swimming and I made sure that I put my swimmers in the bag too. As it turned out the one lane that is usually left for casual lap swimmers was vacant and after a bit of procrastinating I got changed and hopped in for a swim myself. As soon as I started trying to swim my pants started to fall off, I was struggling to keep them up whilst kicking. I ended up doing maybe 10 laps of breast stroke as that wasn't pulling my pants down as fast. I did have to stop half way down the pool each time to pull them up a little but I got there in the end. The pool is only 25 meters long so 10 laps isn't as far as it might sound.
The swimmers are a pair that I've had for a year or two and the used to fit me really well. I guess my waist has shrunk a bit which is good.
On Sunday I did some weights in the garage and everything was feeling a little easier and today I don't have any pain in my arms. I didn't do any squats as I chickened out, but tomorrow I plan to do some.
Instead of going for a walk today, I knocked off work a little early and went for a ride instead (on my motorbike). When I got home I didn't know if I wanted to head out or not so I asked my son if he wanted to go and ride his bike. When he said no, that's when I decided not to walk. I probably should have as my diet hasn't been the best the last few days and I don't want to fall back into old habits.
Tomorrow is another weights day so hopefully I remember to do them. I'm going to try and do 5 sets of each tomorrow as the weights are already feeling just a little bit lighter. Once I've got 5 sets down without issue I'll look at increasing the weight and going back to 4 sets.

Changing Focus
Now that I seem to have gotten over my lack of weight-loss and have a routine that I'm currently happy with, it's time to try and switch my focus back to the whole Motocamp360 business.
As I mentioned in Wednesday's post, Mark Victor has stopped his Bike Bits Australia Man Cave Tuesday videos after two years straight. Mark went into a bit of detail as to why he was stopping and also why he thought that he wasn't getting the level of engagement that he wanted out of his audience. Mark believes that part of the problem is that he has too much diversity in his channel. He does bike reviews, camp cooking, gear reviews for motorcycle kit as well as camping kit. He rides three different bikes that each appeal to different audiences, the Man Cave Tuesday videos also include beer tasting and clips of him doing work around the house. I must admit that I often skips large chunks of his videos as it doesn't interest me much or he rambles on too long about something that I'm not really interested in.
Biker Bits has over 20K subscribers but from what Mark was saying a he only gets roughly 2.5K views per video, but from what I can see it is probably closer to 4K views, in the first few weeks which would most likely be from subscribers, some of his videos get more as time goes on but if you look at his most popular videos, they are from years ago. With an average of 4K views per video you could easily make the assumption that even though you have 20K subscribers, not all of them watch every video. If you go through all his videos, the Man Cave Tuesday ones are some of his least viewed videos so he is obviously not engaging with his viewers as well as he could.
Biker Bits Australia's most popular video by a long way is a short review of a motorcycle jack, it's had 324K views in six years. The most popular Man Cave Tuesday video only has 4.9K views from the looks of it. If you do a little research into how much adsense pays on average for monetised videos on YouTube, you get paid somewhere around $1 to $2 per thousand veiws, so for filming a heap of things he does each week and editing it into a 20 minute video, would take him at least an hour or two each week, possibly more depending how much footage he has to go through, he's ending up with around $5 a week for all that effort. That's a lot of work for not much reward and when you're trying to use it as an actual source of income to help pay bills, then there is no way you could sustain it.
I feel for Mark as he is really giving it a good go, but somehow he just hasn't quite managed to have the break through that he needs. What I have learnt from this is that I need to make sure that my content is consistent and of a good quality. If I get subscribers to my channel I need to give them more of what they subscribed to so I can keep them engaged. Sure I can try a few new things out here and there to see if it has a positive or a negative effect on the growth of the channel.
Just writing all this down is starting to give me a little bit of the motocamping itch again which is good. I still want to try out the microphone again to see if I can get better sound than I did last weekend and if I can get that sorted then I just need to plan a trip and then go out and do it.

Weighing In
106.5kg
I'm happy with what I'm doing. Maybe I'm not losing as much weight as I could I was doing things differently but I'm definitely happy with what I'm doing. I'm exercising, both cardio and muscle toning, this is something that I haven't done since I was 18 or 19. I used to ride my push bike around and for a few months I went to the gym a couple of times per week with a mate. I didn't really like going to the gym and then I got a car so stopped riding everywhere. As far as I'm concerned this is awesome, if someone had told me 12 months ago that I'd be working out with weights at home and going for hour long walks on a regular basis I would have laughed at them. I do need to make a few more steps each week and lose a few more calories, to keep to my targets but I think I've almost got my routine sorted for now.
This week I'm going to take a photo of myself and then in 6 months time I'll take another photo and post them side by side. It will be interesting to see how much of a change I've managed to make.

Happy Friday!
Friday is here and I'm glad the week is over. The start of this week seemed to take so long but the last couple of days have gone pretty quick. Wednesday definitely is hump day at the moment.
This weekend my wife and daughter are taking off to Albury to attend a baby shower on Saturday afternoon and for the first time since selling my car and getting a motorcycle, we've hired a car for the weekend. Tomorrow my son and I are heading over to my Dad's for lunch and then my son has swimming in the afternoon, I'm also on call so we decided that it was probably worthwhile investigating just how much it would cost to hire a car for the weekend and we were surprised by just how cheap it was. We managed to get a Suzuki Swift for $60 for the whole weekend. We picked it up this afternoon and have to drop it back before 5pm on Sunday. The car isn't too old and is in pretty good shape. The only additional cost is for fuel, we have to give the car back with a full tank in it, that shouldn't be too hard as we won't be using it too much. The only think that could possibly be a drama is the insurance has a $6,000 excess on it, so I don't want to be running into anything. I could have reduced the excess but that would have cost something like an extra $20 a day and it just didn't seem worth it.
I've told my son that we can have whatever he wants for dinner on Saturday night and that if he's good he can stay up a little bit later than usual. I'm not sure if we'll play computer games together or watch a movie, but I'm betting on him being good for the next 24 hours as staying up late is such a treat for him for some reason.
I've been feeling healthy this week and my vertigo has been coming and going so I don't know what's going on there but overall, I think I'm in a good place mentally and I'm getting my physical side in order too. I look forward to using the weights in the garage and today I got over 10K steps up at work. It is still a little cold and very windy today, that combined with having to pick up the hire car has meant that I haven't headed out for a walk today but depending on the weather I may do something whilst my son has swimming lessons tomorrow, not sure if I'll swim or just go for a walk, but I'm going to try and do something.

Garage Dweller
Yesterday's post looked much longer on my phone, I was short of time and had to get back to work but I usually try and write a little more than that, so I apologise.
When I got home from work last night I found that my bench had arrived so today I put it together and did my new weights routine. I did manage to get in some chest presses which felt a little awkward to start with but now my chest feels like it has got a little bit of a work out which is what I was wanting. I didn't do any squats or sit ups as I was still in my motorcycle jeans which make those things a little difficult and I didn't want to dirty some different long pants as it's a little cold and I usually wear shorts.
The bench seems pretty strong and well made, it did have a warning saying max user weight 100kg, but I figure that someone who is fit and healthy will probably be lifting more weight than me so the combined weight would possibly be the same if not more.
It has been raining on and off all day and quite cold and windy so I wouldn't have gone for a walk if I was meant to have. This is the perfect weather for doing weights in the garage though so if I get a "walk day" where the weather isn't that good, I now will be able to do something at home without too much drama. This is also good for weekends and such as I usually don't feel like heading out anywhere but, spending half and hour in the garage seems more appealing to me.
Whilst I was testing out the new bench my son came down to the garage to see what I was up to. When he saw me lifting the dumb bells he said something like "they don't look heavy, how can they be hurting you". Apparently I was making some faces as I was finishing off the triceps extensions (they are still hard work). When I had finished my routine I gave my son a go with just one of the dumb bells. He started off saying how easy it was but after about 3 or 4 bicep curls he couldn't do any more and even with both hands holding on to one of the weights he couldn't do more than three triceps extensions. Yes he's nine, but at least now he won't make fun of me any more :)

Posting in the Park
No, I'm not darting out for a quick motocamp, I wish. I've got stuck at work and most likely won't be home before my usual post time. I've just stopped for an early dinner of mixed nuts and a chocolate milk and realised that if I don't post something now, I will miss posting for the first time ever. So I'm on my phone using the app for the first time, one finger typing whilst eating.
Last night, one of my favourite YouTubers, Mark Victor from Biker Bits, announced that he was stopping his regular Tuesday post. He went into quite a bit of detail but it basically boiled down to him putting in too much effort for not enough reward.
It's a shame, but it shows just how hard it is to make a living from YouTube even with Patreon kicking in extra funds. I looked forward to watching his videos each week but I completely understand why he has made that decision, heck I haven't even got one video up and he's being posting every Tuesday for over two years plus doing other vids in-between and still running his online business selling motorcycle accessories.
Well that's dinner done, so I'd better get back to it.

Back in the swing of it
On Sunday I got the dumbbells as planned and I've started using them as planned (Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday). I don't want to over do it, I just want to see how I go to start with and over time I'll add more weight and/or more reps as well as maybe some more exercises. I didn't end up getting the flat bench as I couldn't see them anywhere in Kmart so I've ordered one online as after trying out some exercises I'll definitely need one.
What I've started out with is
I want to do some chest presses but I don't want to lie on the dirty concrete floor of the garage, the same reason why I didn't do sit ups. This is why I've ordered a bench, something I can lie down on for chest presses, sit ups and something to kneel on for the dumbbell rows. I'm sure there are more exercises that I could do, but for now that is enough to get me started. I found these exercises by doing a little research and they definitely each targeted a different set of muscles so it will be interesting to see if I notice any changes in strength or if I start to see some muscle definition in my arms.
Yesterday I managed to get out for a walk after work, so things are hopefully getting back on track and hopefully I'll start losing some weight again. I'm starting not to think as much about the weight loss, I'm just happy that I'm getting more fit. I still don't like that I have a beer gut but if the rest of me starts improving then I'm sure that will eventually take care of itself.

Checking In
Today marks four months of daily posts. I thought that I'd take the opportunity to go through the goals that I've set for myself and give an update on each of them. Things haven't been progressing as fast as I first imagined they would but they are slowly moving forward. By now I was hoping to have several videos released and be starting to promote my YouTube channel, it will happen, it's just not going to be as easy as I first thought.
Here are the goals that I have set myself so far:
I noticed today that I forgot to tally up the previous week in my "Weighing In" post on Saturday. I've updated the post now but the figures for the week were:
Total steps this week: 51,360
Average daily calories burnt: 3,713
Not really that bad for a week of not trying at all.

Here are the goals that I have set myself so far:
Start Blog- Completed 19 July 2018- Start YouTube Channel - Built but no videos as yet
- 70,000 steps each week - my average steps since getting the fitbit is roughly 47,000 steps per week. Over the last three months it is just under 54,000 per week, with the last month averaging just over 70,000 per week. I'm not going to mark this one off until a full year has passed and then I'll just look at the last 6 months.
- 10,000 subscribers within the first year - 4 subscribers and I still haven't launched the channel yet.
- Earn $1000 in one month by second year - $0 biggest month
- Earn $5000 per month by the fifth year - $0 avg per month
- Meet YouTubers who have inspired me - 0 met
- Weigh less than 90kg
by Christmas- currently 107kg. This goal won't be achieved by Christmas but I still want to achieve it. Shoot intro videos by end of August- Completed 14 September- Publish 20 videos in a year - 0 videos published
- Be a better Husband and Dad - I think I've been a better Dad and I've been doing more house work so maybe a better Husband too.
- Motocamp to Bourke - Nothing planned
- Adventure Motorcycle Training by Oct 2019 - Nothing planned
- Burn an average of 4.6K calories each day- achieved one week but then the vertigo struck again.

Check, one, two
On Saturday afternoon I suddenly found myself at a loose end for about an hour. My wife had taken our daughter to swimming lessons and my son was invited over to a friends to play. I was going to sit down and work on this blog and then I thought, "Now is the perfect time to finally test that microphone". So that's what I did.
There is a little bit of electronic buzzing every now and then and the audio quality is OK. I tidied up the audio as best as I could in Davinci Resolve and it made it all sound a bit tinny. The wind noise is the real killer so I need to find a better way to deal with that. For this test all I did was put the mic in the cheek pad of the helmet with just the foam protector over it. I definitely got better sound with the chin bar on the helmet down so I will use that way from now on. I will also try and put the mic in the chin bar, closer to my mouth and use the dead cat cover I have for the mic to see if that makes it any better.
As I was riding along and talking, it kind of turned into a vlog, but as I didn't have the 360° camera with me I wasn't sure if or how I would post the audio. I then had the idea to put the audio to the dash cam footage that I would have from the trip. The footage isn't that great, I mainly have the dashcam just in case something happens and so there is a record of how I was riding prior to whatever happened and to assist with any insurance issues I may have.

Weighing In
106.5kg
Ok, now I'm confused. As suspected, I've obviously been doing something wrong or I don't understand what's going on.
As I said on Monday, I took the week off. I was expecting to to have put on weight as I wasn't trying at all and I wasn't caring about it. I wanted to give my head a break from thinking about it all the time and worrying about what I was eating. I think that this weeks weigh in kind of proves that my metabolism is doing things and/or I've put on a little bit of extra muscle from the extra walking I was doing. This actually gives me hope for working out with some dumbbells a few times each week.
I've done some more thinking and what I'm going to try is weights on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. On those days I won't walk after work. On Monday and Wednesday afternoons I'll go for a walk as long as it's not raining and Friday I may go for a walk depending on how many steps I've done by the time I get home from work and also how much I've managed to get in during the week. I often mow the lawn on Friday afternoons at this time of year so that adds to the steps and exercise a little. I still want to try and get 70k steps each week, so the walks on Monday and Wednesday will probably be around an hour each to make sure I'm putting enough steps in the bank. Saturdays can be a bit of a write off with seeing my Dad for lunch and the kids swimming lessons so I'm going to make them my official day off (which is something else that I read I should be doing anyway).

Day Five
So the end of my break is here. I'm looking forward to getting back and trying again with eating better and exercising more. I've decided that I will buy some exercise equipment for home instead of joining a gym and I'll break up the walking after work with lifting some weights. Kmart have some weights for pretty cheap, I may also get myself their little flat bench. I'll be able to put this stuff in the garage and it won't get in the way too much. The stuff is cheap but hopefully it is enough to get me started and if I find that it is too nasty that should mean that I've been using it so can probably go out and get some better equipment.
I'm not sure what doing weights will do for my weight loss as it may mean that I start to put on weight in muscle mass so I may have to start measuring my belly or something so I can see if I am losing fat or not. Who knew that I'd become that kind of person, it's a little disturbing for me really. I'll need to do some research into what exercises I should doing, I don't want to end up creating issues by not doing the right things in the right order or something like that. I'm hoping that I can find a routine that will take roughly 30 minutes and increase my upper body strength while losing weight.

buying equipment is the same as joining a gym right?

Day Four
Woohoo, three day weekend and I'm not on call! As much as I don't like that my son hurt himself, he has given me a three day weekend all the same. He's not hard to look after so I plan to do some yard work and some maintenance on the motorbike tomorrow if I can. My son would also like to play some PC games with me as well so I'll make sure I leave time to do that to. My wife should be home by mid-afternoon so I may even get to go out for a ride if I've finished everything I wanted to get done. Hopefully I remember to do this tomorrow and remember to take the microphone with me to test it out.
It's been another busy day at work and I got a fair few steps in and worked up a sweat, it will be interesting to see what the scales say on Saturday. Have I put weight on or have I continued to maintain around the same weight? I do wonder what will happen when I start trying again, I'm hoping it will kick things back into action and I'll start losing weight again.
I still haven't looked at gym memberships or getting some gym equipment for home. I have kind of chickened out but if something doesn't start changing then I'll have no option. I do want to lose the weight, it's just proving harder than I thought it would.
My hay-fever or cold or whatever it was has basically left me, I'm still feeling healthier and more fit than I have in a long time and my mental attitude is still positive which is always a good thing. I'm starting to look forward to trying to eat better and exercising again, which I find a little odd, it's almost like I've missed the afternoon walks.

Day Three
Man, I've been busy at work. I've got that much on and some of my team are off on sick leave for the rest of the week so things are starting to pile up a little. I got 10K steps at work again today, and am feeling quite tired. But again I'm happy that I'm not pushing myself to do extra walking after work.
I finally go off call again tonight and was toying with the idea of taking Friday off, even if just to test some more with the camera and microphone and not go Motocamping as the weather isn't meant to be that great (it was raining nearly all day today). Now it looks like I will definitely have Friday off, but to stay at home and look after my son who has busted his ankle and the doctor has told him not to go to school for the rest of the week. My wife is staying home with him tomorrow as I've got that much on and being short staffed meant that it was going to be really hard on the one person who would be left on their own. Friday's are usually a bit quieter so one person should manage on their own and I still get an extended rest before getting back into the diet and exercise routine again on Saturday.
The vertigo is still quite strong at times and doesn't seem to be getting any better, but I do still have a bit of a blocked nose so it could be related to the cold or whatever it is I'm dealing with at the moment.
This weekend is the last weekend that my wife is working. This is good for her but also means that I won't feel so bad if I want to head off for a ride on the weekends now as she'll have two days off instead of the the one or none she's been dealing with recently. I can't remember if I told you or not, but my wife started a new job a few weeks ago and is now just working Monday to Friday during school hours. It's the perfect job for her (and us as a family) as she can still do the school run, doesn't have to worry about working weekends and has a great boss who understands that she has kids and will need time off from time to time.

Day Two
Well, I'm still glad that I'm not worrying about getting exercise or eating healthy as much, I even had Macca's for lunch today. On the way home I was thinking about going for a walk but I decided against it, if my son asked to go then I would have but he was busy on the computer when I got home and didn't move from there until dinner.
I went to bed at a more reasonable time last night and I woke up feeling more rested than I had in a while. I even still have some of the hay fever or cold thing going on and that didn't seem to affect my sleep. The vertigo does disrupt me as sometimes, like when I roll over it goes haywire and makes me feel a little nauseous. Plus my wife has a bit of a cold too and she was snoring so loud that she woke me up at one stage, so I'm surprised I felt as rested as I did. Tonight I'll try and go to bed at a reasonable time too and hopefully I'll feel some of my energy coming back as I have a lot to do between now and Christmas.
At work the vertigo was a challenge at times, I was moving around a fair bit and although I didn't get the steps up, I did work up quite a sweat. The drama is that if I looked up all of a sudden, the vertigo would kick in, it's not a nice feeling. I'd then have to take a second or two to calm myself down before I could get back on with it.
If the vertigo isn't gone my Monday I'm going to go back to the doctors and see if there are some other tests or something that they can do as the vertigo is starting to really become tiring. I'm hoping that it is just a ear infection or something and not a tumour in my head or something like that.

Taking the Week Off
So after a little bit of thinking, I've decided to take the week off from the exercise routine. I'll still try and eat healthier but I'm not going to care about the 4.6K calories or the 10K steps. I'm going to allow myself to eat unhealthy snacks guilt free, if I feel like them. I don't like the constant pressure that I've been putting on myself recently and I don't want to have any of those stupid thoughts if I have something when I know I shouldn't have. I plan to get back into it from Saturday.
Part of the reason is that I need to organise myself with some healthy snacks and the other part is the vertigo and I'm suffering a little from hay-fever or the onset of a cold.
On Wednesday I'll have been on call for two weeks again and I think I have next week off and then I'm back on call for a further two weeks. I haven't been as put out by being on call this time around as I was last time, I guess I'm just more used to it now. I haven't been wanting beers as much which is good and I think I struggled with that last time I was on call, not so much that I wanted them, just knowing that I couldn't have them if I felt like it.
I'm considering taking Friday off week so I can go camping on Thursday night but I still haven't tested my microphone and I don't want to find out that the audio is crap. Maybe I can head out one on Tuesday or Wednesday after work as I won't be going for a walk.
I feel bad that I haven't put more effort into going motocamping and the whole business of filming it. I think that may be because I have been so focussed on losing weight and exercising at then disappointed with my results so it's kind of put me off my game completely. That's another reason for taking the week off.
I have a fair bit of physical work ahead of me this week too so I don't think that I'm going to spend all day sitting at my desk. It wouldn't surprise me if I ended up getting over 10K steps just at work the next few days like I did today.
I do need to start going to bed on time and make sure that I get enough sleep as recently I've not been getting enough. I want to get back to waking up on time and feeling refreshed properly. I don't like hitting the snooze button half a dozen times and still feeling tired. I've been running about 15 to 20 minutes later that usual and it's been making me feel rushed in the mornings.
Just knowing that I'm giving myself a break is already doing wonders for my head and hopefully it will give me enough of a reset that I want to get back into everything like I did a few months back.

time to chill a little
Part of the reason is that I need to organise myself with some healthy snacks and the other part is the vertigo and I'm suffering a little from hay-fever or the onset of a cold.

Mixing things up
I did a little bit of reading today and discovered that maybe the fatigue, the lack of weight loss and the dizziness may all be related to an energy deficiency. This can lead to weight loss stalling as your metabolism changes. The way to combat this is to eat more. I don't know if this is what's going on with me, but I need to try and do something different to kick start the weight loss again. I still can't believe that the first 7kg practically fell off me and that I've stopped drinking all the beer and reduced the amount of junk and increased my exercise and now nothing is happening. Really, last week is probably a result of trying so hard the week before and not seeing any bit of weight loss at all. I am happy that I was feeling more fit, but this week I'm not feeling more fit, I'm feeling lazy and the vertigo is making me lose motivation as everything is just a little harder to do and takes more concentration.
So, like I said, the way to combat a lack of energy is to eat more. I think that I'm going to have to get some healthy snacks to eat for morning tea and afternoon tea. Maybe some fruit or nuts or something like that to help me have enough energy to get through the day and allow me to lose weight. I'm sure that there are other things that I should be looking at and doing some things differently but this is something that I'm going to try to do for the next two weeks and see if it makes a difference.
The plan at the moment is to replace my morning coffee with a piece of fruit or a protein bar and then for afternoon tea I'll have a handful of nuts or a piece of fruit, something like that. I'll keep trying to go for a walk each day and I'm going to try and keep the 4.6K calorie mark as I know it is possible and it is more than I burn if I'm not trying to do anything (last week as a prime example).
I also need to make sure that I'm drinking enough water, the last week or so I've not drunk as much as I should have.

Weighing In
107.5kg
The theme for this week is not really trying at all. I really didn't put in any effort this week apart from Monday. I'm not sure if that's because I've been feeling tired all week or if I'm feeling tired as I haven't been exercising or eating healthy. I do think that it may be related to the vertigo as last time I had vertigo my motivation left me too.
I'm going to have to go back to the doctor if the vertigo doesn't start to get better again soon. I don't really know what else they can do and I don't know if I really want to be taking pills all the time when all it is doing is stopping the symptoms and not treating the cause. I kind of wish that they could just find out what was causing it and fix it. I do think that there is something going on with my ear on the left side.

Winning Powerball
There was a $60,000,000 Powerball draw last night and there was one winner. Could you imagine what you would do if you won that much money? It's such a large amount that you wouldn't really know where to start. No doubt you'd have all these people coming out of the woodwork wanting donations, loans or gifts.
I think that if I did win that much money I'd want to pay off the mortgages of my friends and family, not having a mortgage would change my life and give us that much more disposable income that doing that for my friends and family would enable them to have a better quality of life and help set their families up for the future.
I'd definitely buy a bigger house, probably with some land around it so we could have some pet animals and some room for a swimming pool and a vege garden.
You'd probably need to get a financial planner to help you out with managing the money to make sure that you were making the most of it and really setting your kids and grandkids and great grandkids up. Making sure that they got a good education and that they had everything they needed. It would be hard not to spoil your kids and buy them everything that they asked for and fancy cars when they get older. I don't know if it would be good for them to have never had to work to earn anything but you can see how that could happen.
I'd want a shed where I could tinker on cars and bikes, somewhere to make some mean homebrew beer and just make my own. The possibilities would be near endless if you won that kind of money.

Not a great week
It's turning out to be a pretty bad week. I don't know what's happened but after Monday I just fell back into bad habits. I've been snacking on chocolate again. I'm going to blame my wife for having so much chocolate temptation in the panrty, it's got nothing to do with my inability to avoid bad food. I could have had salad sandwiches for lunch but I've had calamari and chips, sausage roll and chips, roast lamb and potato salad. I also haven't been drinking as much water which could also be a reason why I've been eating poorly and snacking more. I'm not going to make any excuses, I'm just having a lazy week and hopefully will be able to start again next week. I need to make sure that I fill my water bottle at work in the morning and I also need to make sure I drink more water when I get home from work.
Exercise wise, apart from Monday, it hasn't been good. Tuesday I just couldn't bring myself to go for a walk after work,Wednesday it was raining.
I'm not looking forward to getting on the scales this week that's for sure. I'll be really surprised if I haven't put on weight and according to the goal I set myself I'm meant to join a gym. I'm going to have to start researching up the different gyms in my area and see what's going to work for me and not cost the earth. Maybe I'll have to buy an elliptical trainer and put it in the garage. I have to do something.
Like I said before, I don't want to make excuses but I also haven't been getting as much sleep as I probably should. I've been going to bed about an hour later than usual so maybe that's catching up with me too. I'm going to try and get back in the routine of going to bed a little earlier.

Flight Sims
Ever since I was a little fella I've wanted to fly planes. We had an Apple Mac way back when and I used to love playing one of if not the original Microsoft Flight Simulator on that. About 10 years ago I got back into flight sims, this time playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 10 (FSX). I used to play it all the time and then a few years ago I stopped. I've just started playing it again and I'm enjoying flying a little plane around Australia. I've chosen a plane that I could theoretically buy and fly if I had the money, it's a Cessna single engine and doesn't have all the glass panels that newer planes have.
I like just looking at the map and getting the frequencies of the different beacons and navigating to different locations all by myself. I write the frequencies down and then I put the map away.
I don't know if I've mentioned this before or not but I'm colour blind. Not completely colour blind, like seeing in black and white or anything, I have a deuteranomaly which means I'm what is more commonly refereed to as red/green colour blindness. This means that I could never be a commercial pilot or fly for the airforce. When I found that out I was pretty upset as that's what I wanted to do as a boy. For my birthday earlier in the year my family got me a gift certificate for a 30 minute flight in a professional flight simulator, I'm still to use it but I am now looking forward to it since I'm getting back into FSX.
I'd still love to get a pilots licence and a plane of my own but there is no way that I could afford to do either of them unless I won lotto or something, but it's nice to dream.

I May Have Over Done It
So yesterday I was so happy that I'd done so much and even jogged for a little bit, as it turns out, I may have over done it. Today I'm feeling really tired and my dizziness/vertigo is probably the worst that it's ever been. I still managed to get a fair bit done at work but there was no way I was going to get out for a walk. I had a fairly big lunch and I don't think that helped either, I think it just made me more tired.
I'm going to try and get things back on track tomorrow and hopefully have a better day. I just wish I knew what I could do about the vertigo as it isn't much fun.
My diet isn't going to be that great this week either with going out for lunch on Saturday, burgers on Sunday, McDonalds for dinner last night and Chinese for dinner tonight and don't get me started on my lunches or the cake and chocolate that I've had this week already too. Ah well, I do like my food, that's always been the problem. At least my fitness is still improving even if my diet isn't.
I do wonder that if I went to a gym and got an actual program tailored to me if it would be everyday or only a few days each week to give me time to recover. I might have to do some more research into those kinds of things to see if pushing myself every day is better than every other day or mixing up the routine with other exercise besides just walking.

I Jogged
I was riding home from work and feeling pretty happy that the day was over. The weather was overcast and the temperature just right for keeping on riding. I would have loved it if my house was an hour away from work and not just 20 minutes. On the way I was debating whether or not I should go for a walk when I got home, I didn't really feel like going for a walk but I forced myself to head out. My son was at a friends and my daughter didn't want to come with me so I decided to push myself a little and OMG I'm glad I did.
I started walking fairly fast and made good time to my usual turn around spot. A few times I felt like breaking into a jog but I just kept walking. On the way back I was really enjoying myself, I was still walking fast and felt like I had heaps more energy so I actually started jogging. It didn't last long as I got puffed really quickly but I jogged for a couple of minutes and then just kept on walking fast. Even as a kid I could never run or job, I'd end up getting too puffed out or I'd get a stitch and have to stop. I think that if I keep on walking I'm going to try jogging for a little longer each time if I can. I'll do it on the way back and on flat ground to start with but who knows, maybe I'll like it and start doing more of it.
I'm still a little bummed that I didn't lose any weight last week but I'm genuinely thrilled that I'm enjoying exercising and that my fitness is improving. I even considered doing some extra pushups on one of the benches that are along the path that I usually walk on. I never thought that I'd be one of those people and it's not like that's the person I'm aspiring to be, I just want to lose weight.

Recharging
Yesterday we went out and celebrated my wife's birthday with friends and family. We went down to a local pub and lunch, a couple of drinks and some cake. It was nice to catch up with some friends who I rarely get to see and as usual we all agreed that we needed to make more of an effort to see each other more often but somehow I doubt that it will happen, as sad as that is.
My wife's actual birthday is during the week so I haven't given her a present yet and I'm not about to tell you what I've got her just in case :).
I'm finding it hard to get motivated to get out on the weekends and exercise, I enjoy just relaxing and recharging myself for the coming week. After yesterdays weigh in I'm really feeling more like not continuing with the food diary and the weekly weigh ins as it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference to the results or my motivation. I can still see how each week went on the Fitbit app and I can still weigh myself from time to time. I guess it may have helped me to achieve the last two weeks of extra effort in burning calories and exercising, so I'll keep it going for now, but don't be surprised if I stop doing that.
I still haven't got out and tested the microphone, whilst my concentration has been on calories and getting as many steps as I can, I haven't really been thinking about the Motocamping business much and have definitely lost most of my enthusiasm for it. I've been watching more YouTube recently and looking at some pretty successful channels, but they appear to be working hard for what they have and some have been doing it for a long time. It doesn't fill me with hope but I guess like most things, it shows that persistence can pay off.
I'm also really struggling for ideas for this blog. It's hard to keep coming up with daily posts when nothing much has been changing recently, I'm kind of in a holding pattern until I actually start doing things again.

Weighing In
106.5kg
What?
I went back through all the stats on the Fitbit App again and saw that all those weeks that I didn't lose much or any weight, I was lucky to have 3 days where I got over 10K steps. The weeks where I have at least 5 days with 10K steps is when I lost the most weight. This week is my biggest week steps wise and my best week ever for calories burnt and the results just aren't there. Sure the weekend didn't help and hotdogs and pizza during the week probably isn't the best. As I said in an earlier post, I probably need to concentrate more on the health and fitness side and less on the actual weight loss. I was pretty bummed when I first got off the scale and it took me half the day before I started to just feel better about just feeling better and if the weight didn't come off, so what, I still had some pretty big achievements this week and that's nothing to be upset about. My fitness is improving, I'm feeling better in general, I'm getting more work done, I look forward to getting out and doing things with my kids, I'm happy.

I'm happy :)
My fitness is improving, I'm feeling better in general, I'm getting more work done, I look forward to getting out and doing things with my kids, I'm happy.

... and I'm dizzy again
Yesterday I realised at some stage that I wasn't feeling dizzy anymore. I don't remember feeling dizzy in the morning which is when I was usually the worst and even then it hasn't been that bad. I don't know if it was just that one day or if it had been that way for a couple of days, it's kind of been slowly dying off and I'm also getting used to it so it hasn't been bothering me as much. Today in the morning it was pretty much as bad as it's been and it stayed with me for most of the morning. I was hard to get motivated at work when just walking in a straight line can take a bit of effort. I did manage to get going but I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.
I'm still a little dizzy now but I still managed to get out and go for walk after work. As I said yesterday I've been putting in more work than usual into my exercise and hopefully the scales will reflect that when I weigh myself. I've been pretty good with my diet, I've had a few snacks but overall I'm pretty happy. My fitness is definitely improving so that's a good thing too. I'm not getting a puffed when I walk, my knees are feeling better too. They've kind of been a little off or weak since the issue with one of them a while back and it still hurts a little when I walk up hill but I think I've been strengthening the muscles which is good. I really should start looking at doing some sit ups or something but I've never liked them and I don't know when I'd do them, maybe when I get home from my walk, not sure.
I had a quick read back through my first ever post today and I still agree with most of the things that I wrote. I think the difference is that my hobby now seems to be exercise instead of riding my motorcycle as I haven't gone for a ride on the weekend just because I could and I haven't made the time to go motocamping. To be 100% honest, I'm not that concerned about making a second income just now anyway. I think my general attitude has been slowly improving as my fitness has been improving.
I think that I am becoming a better Dad for my kids. I'm spending more quality time with them when we go walking together or to the park to ride bikes. I'm having less arguments with my son and he's being a little less rebellious towards me too. I'm not sure if that is because I'm being a better Dad or that he's changing too. I'm not going to cross off the better Dad goal just yet as I think that there is still room for improvement.

Back on Track
I tell you what, if I haven't lost weight this week then I don't know what else to do. I was going back through all the stats I have on the fitbit app and this week is already looking better than any previous week this year. I've never had three days in a row of over 16K steps. I've also never had three days in a row of burnt calories over 4.6K. The best I've done is have three days in the week for calories and maybe two days for steps.
I'm definitely finding it easier to get out walking each day, even if I've had a big day at work, I still head out. I'm also trying to make sure that I push myself a little when I'm walking and not just taking a leisurely stroll. The only time that I wouldn't go for a walk after work now is if it is raining or if I'd already done 10K steps AND burnt over 4.6K calories. I'm not sure how I'm going to go on the weekend but I still want to head out for a walk both days at the very least. Maybe I can go for a swim whilst the kids have their swimming lessons.
Whilst at work I've been making an effort to try and do more each day and spend less time at my desk. Yesterday I had 10K steps up just after lunch and instead of getting a trolley to put some things on, I did multiple trips carry the things just so I could get in more exercise.
My son is still enjoying raiding his bike when I go for my walks and it makes me feel good that he looks forward to coming out with me and that I'm taking the time to be with him. When I was a kid I used to ride my bike all over the place and by my son's age I would have been riding around my immediate neighbourhood by myself or with my brother or friends. I really feel like my kids miss out on some of the great things due to there being so many weirdos out there that they can't just head down to the local park by themselves and be safe. I'm looking forward to getting on a bike myself and taking my son for a ride around the lake.
Losing weight by exercise alone and not really changing your diet too much is hard work, but I think that this is a better way of doing it as I can always cut back on some of the exercise when I reach a weight that I'm happy with but who knows, I may have developed such a habit by then I'll need to start eating more! yeah right.

got my mojo back baby yeah
