Beer!

If you hadn't guessed already I'm quite fond of beer. Several years  ago I got a home brew kit and started brewing my own beer. It was a way of saving money and it was a hobby that I quite enjoyed. I was thinking more about yesterday's post regarding global warming and recycling more at home and I thought that I really should get back into brewing my own beer again. Not only would it be saving some money, but it would also be reusing some of the beer bottles. I think reusing a bottle several time before sending it off for recycling is much better than just using it once.
Brewing beer at home can be quite a lot of fun as you can experiment with different flavours. When I brewed beer previously I had a couple of favourites. One was using the cheapest home brand basic draught beer wort, but instead of using normal sugar or speciality home brew sugar or dextrose, I'd use a kilo of honey instead. This really gave the beer a nice flavour. I also did a mexican cerveza following the instruction on the wort tin, but then I'd cut a fresh lemon in half and throw that in on top of the brew. It would taste just like Corona's with a slice of lemon but straight out of the bottle. Another favourite was doing a dark ale as per the recipe, but when priming the bottles, instead of using normal bottle priming sugar I'd use Chicco chocolate jelly babies. The end result was this delicious dark ale with a chocolate after taste. You just had to watch out for the Chicco at the end of the bottle as it kind of half disolves and tastes real bad if you accidentally drank it.

I'm getting thirsty.
