I took the photo of the fountain the other day when I was out for a walk after work. It is probably 5 minutes walk from homw and in the middle of the large park area that they call Googong Common. There are footpaths all around the Common which are great for walking and riding bikes. This is where I usually go for a walk. The proximity of the Common is the reason why I was happy to get a house with a small yard. On Sunday I did all the paver edging in the backyard in preparation for planting the hedge. The photo is kind of deceiving as I took it in panorama mode. I was standing in the middle of a right angle corner so the slight curve in the middle of the photo is actually a full quarter circle. As I was doing the paving I really quite enjoyed myself and wondered if maybe I'd missed my calling, maybe I should have been a gardener. I don't what it would be like in the middle of Summer or Winter but the weather is perfect for spending time in the garden at the moment.
Now that the edging is done we'll start to organise the plants for the hedge. I'm now thinking that maybe a hedge made from magnolias could be good. It's hard to know and I think I'll take the above photo to the nursery and try and get some advice on what should grow well along each fence. The one in shade is where we want the privacy and in the quarter circle we'll plant a tree. The edge in the sun may have some citrus plants or something else, we don't need any privacy over that fence so just want to make it look a bit more interesting than just a fence.

If I lost my job or won lotto, I may just become a gardener.
