I stayed at home again today. I got up to get ready for work but having breakfast I just felt exhausted and thought it would be better to stay at home and rest. I'm glad I did as I was definitely not as well as I first felt in the morning. The day passed pretty quickly and I didn't do very much at all. I watched a moving before lunch and then after lunch I did a little bit of research into what plants we could plant in the backyard.
When we were purchasing the house we were told that there was some soil contamination in Googong and that we shouldn't plant and fruit trees or have any vegetable beds straight in the ground. Yesterday and today I tried to find out a little more information and I couldn't find very much. I did find some results of some soil testing that was done prior to Googong being built, these identified areas of environmental concern and there was a little map with some of the locations marked. I've also requested some more information from the local council to see if they have any more detailed information.
The good news is that from what I can find, our house isn't near any of the areas of environmental concern so we should be ok to plant some fruit trees in the back yard. We didn't eat any of the apples off the tree at the old house however we did use the occasional lemon or lime and I'd like to be able to do that again. I'd also like to see what else I could plant that would produce some fruit, so maybe another apple tree or something else. I wouldn't mind trying to plant some native fruit trees to attract the local birds too. Finger limes, or some time of berry could be nice.
