I spent most of Sunday in the garden, tidying up and potting some flowers and things that we'd bought at the nursery. I also decided to have a go at growing some of my own food from seeds. I've tried to do that before but it wasn't a great success as I the pots probably weren't in the best location and I forgot to water them too. This time I've moved the pots to a position that I hope will be a bit better and hopefully I can remember to water them more regularly.
I've planed seeds for lettuce, basil, chilli and rocket. I didn't have any other seeds so they will have to do. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can get them growing and having a go at eating them.
Also in the backyard we have an apple tree and a nectarine tree. Last year the nectarine had plenty of fruit and the apple had not one. I'm not sure what happened as we usually get heaps of apples. Unfortunately I don't do anything with any of the fruit that we grow, it just ripens on the tree and then falls to the ground or the birds get to it. Maybe this year I'll have a go at keeping at least some of the apples as I don't like nectarines and I don't know what to do with them if I'm not going to eat them.
Growing food in a vege garden is something that I really want to have a go at but we don't currently have the room. When the kids have grown up and we don't have the swings and trampoline in the yard anymore I'll probably make some above ground beds and have a real go at growing some food. Until then I'll have to be content with the small pots next to the garage.
